THE CITIZENS INSPIRE CHANGE VIRTUAL HACKATHON OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE OR WIN PRIZES

  1. Program Submission Period: The Citizens Inspire Change Virtual Hackathon (the “Hackathon”) will run in two phases: Phase 1 begins 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on February 7, 2021 and ends 11:55 p.m. ET on February 28, 2021. Phase two begins 12:00 AM ET on March 5, 2021 and ends 11:55 AM ET March 28, 2021 (the “Hackathon Submission Period”).

    Eligibility:
    Open to students enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior at a 4-year U.S.-based college or university. Participants (the “Participants’), must be legal residents of the 50 United States or D.C. Participants must register using a valid university/college email address. Participants may register in teams of up to 2, or individually. Refer to Prizes section for additional details.

 

  1. How to Participate: During the Hackathon Submission Period, visit https://inspire-change-virtual-hackathon.hackerearth.com/. (“Site”) and follow the directions to register for the Hackathon. Registrants who do not meet the aforementioned eligibility requirements will be disqualified. There are two phases within the Hackathon. Phase I requires the submission of a mock web/mobile app and demo presentation, and Phase 2 requires the submission of a functioning web/mobile app and demo presentation (“Submission”). Each team or individual Participant must upload Phase 1 and Phase 2 Submissions on the Site. Phase 1 Submissions must be uploaded by 11:55 PM ET on February 28, 2021, and Finalists progressing to Phase 2 must upload Submissions by 11:55 PM ET on March 28. 2021. Submissions that do not meet the requirements set forth in these Official Rules will be disqualified. Limit of one (1) Submission per Participant (team or individual) per phase.     The Participants of the Submission will have all rights and own the IP of the Submission.

 

  1. Program Submission Guidelines: All Submissions must adhere to the following Hackathon Submission Guidelines and these Official Rules of the Hackathon. Any Submission that does not adhere to these Hackathon Submission Guidelines or the requirements set forth in these Official Rules is subject to disqualification from the Hackathon:

 

  • Submission guidelines for Phase 1 are as follows:
    • Participants must confirm the chosen Hackathon theme (selected from a list of 3 possible themes), propose the idea to solve the problem, discuss the technologies that will be used to develop the web/mobile app, and discuss how the web/mobile app will deliver the intended solution
    • Participants must include a brief presentation to discuss the proposed web/mobile app on the Site
    • Finalists will be selected and notified by March 12, 2021
  • Submission guidelines for Phase 2 are as follows:
    • Participants must submit a functioning web/mobile and the code, and a brief presentation to demonstrate the web/mobile app on the Site

 

  • Participants must submit the functioning web/mobile app via an open-source channel, preferably GitHub
  • The top 3 winners will be selected and notified by April 9, 2021
  • Submission may not contain:
    • Content that includes phrases, trademarked material, or other third-party
    • The names, likenesses, voices, or other indicia identifying any person, including, without limitation, celebrities and/or other public or private figures, living or dead, without permission; or look-alikes of celebrities or other public or private figures, living or dead;
    • Content that promotes any illegal activity; promotes any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous; promotes any particular political agenda or message; is obscene or offensive; endorses any form of hate or hate group;
    • Personal identification, such as license plate numbers, e-mail addresses or street addresses or other identifying information of any person or entity other than you and the
    • Material that is inappropriate, indecent, sexually explicit or suggestive; unnecessarily violent, profane, obscene, hateful, tortuous, derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group, (including using words or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic group).
    • Content which violates any law, statute, ordinance or regulation (including, but not limited to, those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination, and false advertising).
    • Content that promotes violence or engages in, encourages, advocates, discusses with the intent to commit, or provides instructions for conduct that would constitute a criminal or civil offense or would otherwise violate any federal, state, local or international law or
    • Material or content for which you were compensated or granted any consideration by any other third
    • Material or content that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, hate speech, whether directed at an individual or group, and whether based upon the race, sex, creed, national origin, religious affiliation, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or language of such individual or group or that is otherwise unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any individual, partnership, corporation, or political
    • Content that disparages, slanders or libel persons or organizations associated with Sponsor or any other brands, companies, or
    • Content or materials in which you impersonate another person or
  • Submission may not have been submitted previously in a Hackathon or competition of any kind or previously exhibited or displayed publicly (i.e., disclosed beyond your immediate circle of friends, business colleagues and family) through any
  • Submission must be consistent with Sponsor’s image
  • Submission may not contain information known by you to be false, inaccurate or
  • Submission must be your own original, unpublished work and should not contain, incorporate or reference any content that is owned by any third party or entity, would require the consent of any third party or entity in any jurisdiction, or which infringes any third party’s copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity, right of privacy, moral rights, and/or any other applicable personal or proprietary

 

  1. Judging: At the conclusion of Phase 1, all eligible Submissions (without registration information) will be judged to determine a specified number of Finalists based on the following judging criteria: Perceived technical acumen and programming ability (50%); Perceived effectiveness of Participant’s web/mobile app to address the chosen Hackathon theme (25%); and Perceived use of originality and creativity to address the chosen Hackathon theme (25%). Finalists will then be re-judged by a panel of judges using the same criteria to determine the top 3 winners. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the Submission that received the highest score for Perceived technical acumen and programming ability. Decisions of judges are final with respect to all matters relating to the Hackathon. No information regarding judging, other than as otherwise set forth in these Official Rules, will be

 

  1. Prizes (each, a “Prize”) up to 8 (8): Up to 8 prizes will be awarded to the Participants of the top 3 Submissions. Winners must meet the aforementioned eligibility guidelines to receive a prize. Prize categories are listed as follows:

 

  • Top prize: 32KB Apple iPad (ARV $330) and informational interview with Citizens’ Campus Recruiter
  • First runner up: Amazon Echo Studio (ARV $200) and informational interview with Citizens’ Campus Recruiter
  • Second runner up: Apple Airpods (ARV $160) and informational interview with Citizens’ Campus Recruiter

    Limit one (1) prize per individual Participant. Participants working in teams of 2 will each receive the prize aligned to the prize category. Sponsor does not make, nor is in any manner responsible or liable for, any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize including but not limited to the quality, fitness for a particular purpose, or condition. No substitution or transfer of prize permitted except at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Prizes are not transferable; no substitutions or cash equivalents are allowed except by the Sponsor who reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. Prizes are not redeemable for cash. Taxes related to the prizes are the responsibility of the winners, if applicable. No responsibility or liability is assumed for damages, losses or injury resulting from acceptance or use of any prize.

 

  1. General Rules: As a condition of Submission into the Hackathon, all Participants agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, its respective agencies, parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and each of its respective officers, directors, shareholders, members, employees, agents, assigns, and all others associated with the development and execution of the Hackathon (collectively the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with submitting a Submission or otherwise participating in any aspect of the Hackathon, the receipt, ownership or use of prizes awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement or offering of the prizes. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use Participants’ names, likenesses for promotional purposes, without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. By submitting a Submission, Participant accepts and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules. Submissions will be declared to be made when the Participant uploads the submission to the Site. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the Submission process or the operation of the Program; violates the Official Rules; acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner; or acts with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person. The Released Parties are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications, whether caused by the sender, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Program which may limit the ability to participate, or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Submissions in the Program. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Hackathon if it cannot be completed as planned for any reason, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures or corruption of any sort. In such event, Sponsor will determine the Participants that will receive prizes from among all eligible Submissions received prior to cancellation according to the Judging Criteria outlined above. Sponsor reserves the right to award fewer than the stated number of available prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible Submissions are received. As a condition of participating in the Hackathon, Participant agrees that: 1) under no circumstance will Participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and Participant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential or any other damages, other than for out- of-pocket expenses; 2) all causes of action arising out of or connected with the Hackathon, or prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and 3) any and all claims, judgments, and award shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, but in no event will Participant be entitled to receive attorneys’ fees or other legal costs.

 

  1. DISPUTES: Participants agree that: (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Hackathon, or any prize awarded to the Applicant shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and solely and exclusively in a federal or state court located in the State of Rhode Island; Participants must submit to sole and exclusive personal jurisdiction to said courts in the State of Rhode Island for any such dispute and irrevocably waives any and all rights to object to such jurisdiction; (b) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out of pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with participating in this Hackathon but in no event attorneys' fees; and (c) under no circumstances will Participants be permitted to obtain awards for and Participants hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. PARTICIPANTHEREBY AGREES THAT PARTICIPANT WILL NOT BRING A CLASS ACTION OR PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION AGAINST SPONSOR WITH RESPECT TO THE HACKATHON. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Participants in connection with this Hackathon shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Rhode Island, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules of provisions (whether of the State of Rhode Island, the United States, or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Rhode

 

  1. Data Collection: The Participants of the Submission will have all rights and own the IP of the Submission.

    Sponsor collects personal information from Participants when they submit a Submission for the Hackathon for use in administration of the Hackathon. The information collected is subject to Citizen Bank N.A.’s Privacy Policy located at https://www.citizensbank.com/account- safeguards/privacy.aspx.
